Nakia Daniel Reynoso, known as Nakia, left The Small Stars in 2006 and released the album Water to Wine on April 14, 2009. He recorded backing vocals on Alejandro Escovedo's Street Songs of Love, released in June 2010. In 2022 he appeared in the Skeleton Crew episode Dueling Pianos. Signal, his first album of new originals since 2009, came out on May 30, 2025 on KiaChia Records. A Signal single on that label is dated May 21, 2024.
